摘要
Among planned socialist economies, China's Open Door policy for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) represents a unique and unprecedented development. While most planned socialist economies have maintained the conventional Marxist line of shunning the import of capitalist practices and development, post-Mao China has actively solicited and welcomed FDI from capitalist economies. In this context, it remains an important scholarly task to review the progress and performance of FDI in the post-Mao Chinese economy and assess its impact on a predominantly centrally planned economy. This article attempts to bridge a gap in the availability of coherent and detailed FDI data by collating and analyzing data recently available from a variety of sources, and examines the impact of FDI on China's economic development in light of the markets-versus-planning debate and international trade and investment theory. -from Author
