A NATIONAL SURVEY OF EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PROVIDED BY INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAMS

A national survey of the employment services offered by a representative sample of 104 independent living programs (ILPs) found that 61% of ILPs provided some type of employment/vocational services. Specific employment services were offered by fewer ILPs: vocational counseling/guidance (60%), placement services (38%), on-the-job training (32%), transitional employment services (28%), and supported work programs (21%). More ILPs provided community job development (73%), employability development services (59%), vocational assessment services (45%), and occupational skills training (40%). It was concluded that ILPs are significantly involved in the provision of employment services to their clientele.
