Parliamentary system and parliamentarism: ideas for a debate in Italy in the late nineteenth century

The essay seeks to reconstruct, through the works of non canonical authors, the debate developing in Italy at the end of the nineteenth century, concerning the parliamentary system touched by a deep crisis. The clash between the "conservatori" and the "Sinistra Storica" culminated mainly in recognition of the importance of certain elements wich characterized that controversy: universal suffrage, the role of Parliament in opposition versus the executive power and the importance of public opinion supporting of the policy choices of the country.
