TREATMENT OF PERITONITIS IN CAPD PATIENTS CAUSED BY DIVERTICULITIS - IS A SURGICAL INTERVENTION NECESSARY IN ANY CASE

Treatment of peritoneal dialysis (PD)-related peritonitis today in most PD-units will be done as recommended by the international advisory committee on peritonitis management. Peritonitis caused by gramnegative, multiple or even anaerobic organisms should raise suspicion of diverticulitis or bowel perforation. In a patient with radiological signs of diverticulitis, but no positive evidence of perforation, presenting only little clinical signs of peritonitis we performed a conservative therapy instead of surgical intervention, that became necessary in another patient presented in this paper. Intravenous application of antibiotics and interruption of CAPD for three weeks was successful in the first patient; four months later he still is on PD without any new complications.
