摘要
In this article, we introduce readers to the art of reading poetry with children. Beginning with a brief definition of poetry and how it works, followed by a discussion of the benefits of reading poetry with children. Next, we examine the neglect of poetry in schools, as well as recommendations for addressing this neglect. These recommendations are focused primarily on immersing students in poetry on a daily basis, reading poetry aloud to students and encouraging students to read poetry themselves. The author then shares research on children's poetry preferences in order to support teachers in choosing poetry to share with their students. Finally, we explain how reading poetry can lead to writing poetry. Our primary goal is to provide teachers and teacher educators with knowledge on how to invite students into the world of poetry.
