KINETICS OF REACTION OF NP(V) WITH HNO2 IN TRIBUTYL-PHOSPHATE IN THE PRESENCE OF HNO3

The reaction of Np(V) with HNO2 in TBP containing HNO3 is studied. The reaction accelerates with increasing HNO2 concentration. The order in HNO2 at HNO2 concentrations 6.2-12.5 mM is less than 0.5. The order is 1.5 at higher HNO2 concentrations. The reaction rate is little affected by the [HNO3] in the range 0.045-0.37 M. Water inhibits the reaction. The reaction mechanism is discussed.
