From weiter leben to Still Alive: Ruth Kluger's continuous inconclusiveness

After its initial publication in 1992, Ruth Kluger's book weiter leben. Eine Jugend immediatly became a best-seller. However, an English-language version of the book appeared at the express wish of the author only in the year 2001 with the title Still Alive. A Holocaust Girlhood Remembered in the New York publishing house "The Feminist Press." The author herself had it translated and reworked considerably. The resulting differences between the two versions as intertextuality, changes in the names of the persons or the epilogue will be, inter alia, illuminated and captured in this article. The American version is thus a continuation and must be considered in every scientific analysis of weiter leben.
