Programmes and Textbooks for Religious Education in State Primary Schools in Poland

The aim of religious education in state primary schools in Poland is not, like in most countries of the European Union, to exclusively transmit knowledge about various world religions. Nor does it concentrate on Christian reality but on education because it wants to serve the personal and religious development of the pupils. The author of the present article presents the religious education in state primary schools in Poland with special attention given to the programmes and textbooks for religious education. First the basic foundations of religious education as well as programmes and textbooks are shown. The last part of the article deals with the textbooks for religious education prepared and edited by professors Elzbieta Osewska and Jozef Stala as a new model of religious education.
