摘要
A simplified three layer model is considered in order to examine the movements of deep mesoscale eddies such as the isolated Mediterranean eddies observed off the Bahamas. The model consists of two main layers, representing the upper and lower layer of the ocean, and an intermediate lens-like layer representing the eddy. It incorporates zonal eddy movements resulting from advection by uniform flows in both the upper and lower layer, and a beta -induced westward translation.
