SYNTHESIS OF MGO-AL2O3-SIO2 GLASSES FROM SOL-GEL PROCESS AND THEIR THERMAL-EXPANSION

摘要
The synthesis of MgOAl2O3SiO2 glasses by the sol-gel process was investigated and the thermal expansion of bulk glasses was measured. For the preparation of dense bulk glasses, the optimum condition was obtained when the aluminum and magnesium nitrate were used as raw materials and 1-propanol was used as solvent. Their expansion coefficients were controllable by changing the composition. The glass ceramics containing α- or μ-cordierite were obtained by heat treatment at 900 to 1300°C. © 1990.
