MICROCRYSTALLINE HYDROXYAPATITE FORMATION FROM ALKALINE-SOLUTIONS

摘要
Formation of hydroxyapatite in the pH range 9.5-12.0 was investigated. The first-formed solid phase was amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP), which transformed after an induction period into microcrystalline hydroxyapatite (HA). The results obtained by the methods of radioactive tracer labeling and TEM confirmed that transformation takes place by ACP dissolution and subsequent HA crystallization. Observed decrease of the induction period with increase of pH, temperature, and reagent concentrations is in good correlation with the decrease of HPO42- concentration indicating that phosphate deprotonation appears as retarding stage of HA crystallization.
