MASS-TRANSFER OF OXYGEN AND METHANE IN SILICONE FLUIDS AND PERFLUOROALKYL POLYETHER

Volumetric liquid-side mass-transfer coefficients of O2and CH4in silicone fluids and a perfluoroalkyl polyether were measured at elevated temperatures (373-573 K) and pressures (10-65 bar). A transient absorption technique was utilized to measure kLa in an agitated vessel. The volumetric liquid-side mass-transfer coefficients (kLa) for O2and CH4increased with temperature, pressure, and stirring speed in the range examined; the volumetric liquid-side mass-transfer coefficients of O2were 10-50% higher than those for CH4. The effect of temperature on kLa has been examined for Newtonian fluids (200F 100CS silicone fluid and krytox 143AD oil) and a dilatant fluid (550F silicone fluid). © 1990, American Chemical Society.
