摘要：
The brief history of scientific research and industrial development of magnetic recording apparatus in the USSR is given. The structure of the national research centres and laboratories, as well as the main manufacturers of magnetic disk and tape storage systems and their products are considered. The possible areas of cooperation between the Soviet Union and European companies and research centres are discussed.
