ABSOLUTE NEUTRON FLUENCE DETERMINATION WITH A SPHERICAL PROTON RECOIL PROPORTIONAL COUNTER

摘要：
A spherical proton recoil proportional counter is used to measure neutron fluences. This is now possible with improved precision since the response functions of that counter have recently been calculated with sufficient accuracy, taking into account gas amplification and wall effects. Neutron scattering from the counter walls is estimated using the MCNP code. Results are compared with data obtained independently with a cylindrical proton recoil proportional counter. At present the numbers obtained with the two methods differ by 5%. More experiments and detailed investigations are called for to study this discrepancy.
