摘要:
From its introduction in the nineteenth century, the camera reinforced a change in the Western world's focus towards the material world, tying the century's new ideas about mankind's power to its understanding of a future. Photography in India was to develop in a somewhat different fashion, reflecting and extending not the Western world's approach to an emerging reality, but an Indian one. Adapting rather than adopting the camera's technology, indigenous photographers focused on spiritual cosmic relationships, in effect taking on many of the attributes of traditional Indian painting.
