摘要
Construction crews for large drilled pier foundations have been reporting difficulties in fabricating and placing reinforcement cages in the drilled holes. The difficultly arises due to the flattening of the cage while it is kept in a horizontal position before placing in the desired location. To remedy this, the tie bars are to be designed to withstand the construction stresses. Equations for the design of tie bars of large drilled piers are presented, and recommendations for selecting tie bar spacing, tie bar size, and longitudinal bar size are discussed. For the benefit of practicing engineers, design curves and tables are provided.
