EXPERT SYSTEMS IN IRON AND STEEL-INDUSTRY

This study, as carried out by a group of computer process control engineers, concerns real-time expert systems which are in service in different steel-making units of the French Usinor Sacilor Group. After classifying and analyzing the various applications, the data-process committee proposes its recommendations for the realization of such systems. Taking practical experience into account, these recommendations involve all phases of implementation: basic study, detailed functional specifications, and the development of an expert system as well as its evolution in time. This document is intended for all those who are concerned with the success of the start-up of real time expert systems.
