摘要
Overcoming language barriers through the use of interpreters in mental health work is a challenge for clinicians. This article reviews and examines the common problems of language translation encountered at both technical and conceptual levels during the assessment and treatment of mentally ill patients, many of whom are immigrants. Various models of translation for different clinical purposes are reviewed. Ways to improve interpretation in clinical work are discussed, and relevant training for both clinicians and interpreters regarding culturally relevant and competent mental health work is suggested.
