Let T be a closed, densely defined operator on a Hilbert space H. A family Λ(t) of bounded linear operators is constructed so that L(t, x) = (∥x - Λ(t)x∥2 + t2∥TΛ(t)x∥2) 1 2 is equivalent to the Peetre K-functional for interpolation between H and the domain of definition of T, The construction is applied to boundary value problems and interpolation with constraints. © 1991.
