Research related to the general topic of the bond between people and their pets is discussed. Reviewed are studies which establish a possible connection between pet ownership and human physical and emotional health. The "therapeutic" use of pets in, for example, old people's homes is discussed. The topics of pet behavioral problems, the specialty of clinical animal behavior, and animal behavior therapy are briefly considered.
