REFORM OF SERBIAN SELF-GOVERNMENT

The author presents basic directions and the range of the local self-government system reform in Serbia in the period 2000-2011. The focus is on the legal, institutional, property, financial and other related reform aspects. The reform has accomplished significant results, but it has not been completed yet. Further reform steps are particularly emphasised in the paper. Serbia ratified the European Charter of Local Self-Government at the end of 2007. Constitutional amendments of 2006, several laws about local self-government adopted in 2007, and the Law on Public Property of 2011 are the basis of the most important changes in the Serbian local self-government system.
