摘要：

This paper aims to contribute for a better comprehension of virtual learning communities which are implicated in collaborative learning processes. The concepts of community and virtual community are analysed. A typology of virtual communities is presented with a special focus on learning communities and communities of practice. Lastly, the importance of collaboration is discussed, associating these communities with the emerging collaborative paradigm.
