Objective: In this study we aimed to evaluate prognosis, etiology and demographic characteristics of child and adult patients suffering intoxication who admitted to emergency department of Zile state hospital and hospitalized in general intensive care unit, between 1 Jannuary 2012 and 31 December 2012. Methods: All child and adult patients, suffering intoxication who admitted to general intensive care unit through emergency department of Zile State Hospital, between 1 Jannuary 2012 and 31 December 2012, included to study. Clinical, labaratory and demographic characteristics and the type of intoxication retrospectively evaluated. Results Total of 31 cases included into this study. 19 (61,3%) of cases were female and 12 (38,7%) of cases were male. Mean age of cases was 26,61 +/- 1,41 (16-38). The etiology of intoxication, in 19 cases was drugs, in 6 cases it was CO, in 2 of cases it was organophosphates and in 4 cases the etiology was mushrooms. The likelyhood of suicide was found to be higher in single youngs, females, crowded family members, residents of town (according to that of village) and graduaters of primary school. Conclusion: In this retrospective study we revealed a general profile of intoxication cases that are commonly seen in intensive care units. We also assesed our intensive care unit intoxication patients' profiles.
