Maritime ex-voto graffito from the church of Hagia Sophia, Constantinople

This paper deals with a rare example of a maritime ex-voto drawing with protective saint or St. Nicholas from the south gallery of the church of Hagia Sophia. The most interesting features of our graffito are discovered at the level of the ship's drawing. This ex-voto scene illustrates three types of vessels, one light galley, one round ship or merchantman, and one (merchant?) galley or cargo-ship. Taking into account the types of ships depicted, the time-span for the Hagia Sophia graffito lies between 1350 and 1450.
