摘要
The status of the design and synthesis of organic nonlinear optical materials is reviewed. Results of theoretical calculations can be used to predict the behaviour of speculative molecules. The methods used to enforce noncentrosymmetry, important for second order nonlinearity, are emphasised. Examples include ICI's crystalline 2-pyrazolines, and polyene systems studied by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique, as well as some recent literature results.
