Urban Renewal, Leisure and Tourism

The scope of the research was to learn how different social actors experienced the outcome of Vidal Ramos St. renewal process. The street is located at the historic center in Florianopolis (Santa Catarina State, Brazil). It was an exploratory research, relying on documental sources, non-participant observation, interviews and photographic registration. The present feature of the place got the approval of all interviewees, including masterminds, store owners, dwellers and by passers. The results may contribute with discussions on gentrification and refurbishing issues which is a novel subject in Florianopolis.
