Femoral Neck Fracture Fixation in the Setting of Ipsilateral Femoral Neck and Shaft Fractures

Femoral neck fracture reduction and fixation can be challenging. The addition of an ipsilateral femoral shaft fracture complicates treatment further. This serves as a review of femoral neck reduction and fixation strategies in the setting of ipsilateral neck and shaft fractures. Common displacements are described, as are techniques to counteract those displacements. Mechanical failure modes are highlighted as are constructs designed to resist typical failures. The review is organized around technical tips aimed at improving diagnosis, visualization, reduction, and stabilization.
