The uptake of sorbitol into vacuoles from immature flesh of apple fruit (Malus pumila Mill. var domestica Schneid.) was facilitated by 10(-6) M ABA, while such uptake into protoplasts was not stimulated. By contrast, the application of 10(-5) M IAA facilitated uptake of sorbitol into protoplasts but did not significantly into vacuoles.
