SYNTHESIS OF BIS(DELTA(2)-2-IMIDAZOLINYL)-5,5'-DIOXIME AND ITS MONONUCLEAR AND TRINUCLEAR COMPLEXES

In this work, bis(Delta(2)-2-imidazolinyl)-5,5'-dioxime (H(2)L) was synthesized by reacting bis(Delta(2)-2-imidazolinyl) with cyanogen-di-N-oxide. H(2)L forms mononuclear complexes with a metal-ligand ratio of 1:2 with Ni(II) and Co(II); Cu(II) forms only trinuclear complexes. The reaction of mononuclear complexes of Ni(II) or Co(II) with Cu(II) gives heterotrinuclear complexes, [(HL)(2)MM'Cl-2(4)], {M = Ni(II), Co(II) and M' = Cu(II)}. Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) on H(2)L [(HL)(2))Cl(H2O)M] have a metal-ligand ratio of 1:1 and contain a six-membered chelate ring. The structures of these complexes are proposed based on elemental analyses, IR, and magnetic susceptibility measurements.
