摘要
The way to sustainability for poor cities proposes a systematic framework for achieving sustainability based upon community ecology that recognizes and builds on the complex interdependence of activities within any city. The author stresses the need for much greater attention to local knowledge and institutions and to those aspects of a better quality of life that depend not on high resource use but on health, participation, social interaction and integration and more freedom to choose satisfying lifestyles. It also considers how basic needs can be met without high levels of resource consumption.
