APPLICATION OF AXIOMATICS IN PRODUCT MODELING

This paper describes the application of Axiomatics in the analysis of product models. Axiomatics is used to analyze design solutions represented in models and it comprises a set of general principles of design which specify ways of improving the ''quality'' of a proposed solution. By including the principles in a supportive computer system, a user will be able to evaluate the ''quality'' of product models, so that costly solutions can be avoided as early as possible in the design process. A representation of Axiomatics is specified with regard to the product models, in terms of two goodness values and a set of analysis rules. The goodness values estimate the complexity and the functional dependency of a design solution, and the analysis rules propose modifications or compare solutions. The proposed representation of Axiomatics expands upon the original ideas, by the explicit use of complexity structures in the context of Value Analysis, in order to make it applicable in product modeling.
