INTERMITOCHONDRIAL SEPTATE JUNCTION IN HEPATIC CELLS FROM HIBERNATING GROUND-SQUIRRELS CITELLUS-UNDULATUS

摘要
We investigated the ultrastructure of mitochondria during hibernation. Electron microscopy showed mitochondria in hepatic cells of hibernating ground squirrels to change from the orthodox to condensed state. Mitochondria were also found to form specific clusters. All mitochondria in the clusters were connected by special septate junctions. The ultrastructure of these intermitochondrial junctions has been described in the literature. The functional role of the complex mitochondrion in hepatic cells of hibernating ground squirrels is discussed.
