TRAVELING, AIRPLANES AND HIGH-ALTITUDES

In this paper some aspects about traveling, acute exposure to altitude and jet air travel are discussed. It is concluded that altitude up to 2500 m and commercial flights are well tolerated for mother and fetus in uncomplicated pregnancies. In intercontinental air travel special attention must be paid to the risk of venous thromboembolism, while the additional amount of cosmic radiation is well below the accepted dose limits.
