The spatial distribution of public and independent care homes reveals that there are major differences in the structure of residential care, but there is a tendency towards the spatial equalisation of independent residential care provision. Proposed government policy changes will affect provision, creating a new geography of residential care provision, although the precise outcomes remain unclear.
