PERSPECTIVE-TAKING IN PARTNERSHIPS

This study addresses the importance of perspective-taking in partnerships. Numerous research methods have been applied to reveal its significance to satifying relationships. By means of a couple's actual everyday conflict situation this experimental study (therapy group n = 20, non-therapy group n = 20) covers direct perspective-taking, the ability to take the partner's perspective vice versa, as well as satisfaction in a partnership. There are no connections between direct perspective-taking and satisfaction in a partnership, but they are to be found between vice versa perspective-taking and partnership satisfaction. Therapy group and non-therapy group differ with regard to satisfaction in partnership and vice versa perspective-taking, but not with regard to direct perspective-taking. There are no differences in gender. The results are being discussed with regard to their significance to couple therapy.
