Application of frequency sensitive surfaces in electromagnetic shielding

摘要
A new class of filled composite material has been proposed with a two dimensional regular array of conductive flakes (like a Frequency Sensitive Surface (FSS)) in plastic resin. A theoretical model of the proposed configuration has been formulated and has been employed to estimated the size and separation of the regularly spaced conductive flakes necessary to achieve the desired level of shielding over a particular range of frequencies. Experimentally, the shielding effectiveness (SE) of such material has been determined and compared with the SE of available filled composite in which the flakes are randomly distributed. The improvement in the shielding capability of the new class of material has been highlighted.
