EXPERIENCES AND PERCEPTIONS OF HONG-KONG CHINESE ENTREPRENEURS REGARDING THE POLITICAL-CHANGE OF 1997

The purpose of this paper is to throw light on Hong Kong Chinese entrepreneurs' perceptions of the likely risks and opportunities posed by the People's Republic of China's resumption of sovereignty over Hong Kong in 1997. A content-analysis of thirty-two interviews suggests that memories of unfavorable experiences in the past has not affected their perceptions of future political risks. There seems to be a convergent optimism regarding financial opportunities for Hong Kong business and the manifest political and economic problems are seen by the entrepreneurs merely as temporary setbacks on the road to improvement.
