As expert systems become more popular, the possibility of lawsuits arising from their use becomes increasingly evident. The expert system developer needs to be aware of important legal concepts associated with an expert system's development and deployment. This paper will primarily explore the rights to intellectual property associated with an expert system and liability for malfunction of an expert system.
