LOCAL DEVELOPMENT INDICATORS FOR RURAL TOURISM IN QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO

The development of tourism in Mexico has been managed to face the needs of two market segments related to the natural attractions of the coast, with two types of tourism: sun and beach, and cruises. The impetus for economic activity has generated a series of positive and negative impacts in the communities where it occurs as the main income generating activity. The National Tourism Programs result in boosting tourism, balanced regional development and sustainable communities with the resources and contrary to endemic benefit that has been generated mainly in Megaprojects Integrally Planned Centers and Tourism (Cancun, Huatulco, Los Cabos, Loreto and Ixtapa, Costa Maya, Riviera Maya, Nayarit, Copper Canyon, Palenque, and the Escalera Nautica), characterized by belts of misery and exhaustion of resources. Some rural communities in the state of Quintana Roo have generated a development within their localities, hence the importance of implementing a local development indicators to provide information for decision making in the social, environmental and economic.
