Spatio- temporal analysis of environmental urban noise in Madrid and its districts using GIS The main contribution of this paper lies in obtaining and introducing a pioneering characterization of environmental noise level registered in the Madrid metropolis, as a component of the so- called " soundscape". Based on the new acoustic map, firstly covering the city, it is tackled a spatio- temporal analysis of urban acoustic intensity. To this end, noise levels during daytime and night- time periods, the day- night variation and the noisiest levels are examined, disaggregating the analysis by urban districts. Methodologically it is used a statistical approach and a GIS for noise data handling, in an exploratory strategy.
