Localized malignant pleural mesothelioma is a rare tumor entity. We present two cases with solitary tumors of the pleura, one of which infiltrating the fifth rib and the lung tissue. In both cases complete resection of the tumors was followed by local radiation therapy. Follow-up at 16 months showed local recurrence in one case. Localized pleural tumors should be examined histologically to establish diagnosis and to differentiate these neoplasias from benign tumors of the chest wall. Copyright © Springer-Verlag 2010.
