Public Reason and Religion in a Postsecular Context

Most sociologists of religion affirm that during the last decades there has been an increasing desecularization of the public space. In Political Liberalism and << The Idea of Public Reason Revisited >>, Rawls suggests a model of public reason adapted to this new role of religions in the public space. Instead of the more restrictive model found in << The Idea of Public Reason Revisited >>, this paper favours the contextual and more open interpretation of Political Liberalism. Finally, it stipulates an understanding of << laicite >> that respects religious freedom and doesn't instigate social secularization.
