Plasminogen activation at the cell surface: a functional crossroad of cell migration-associated pathways

摘要
Cell migration is a multistep process, which requires precise coordination of proteolytic, adhesive and motogenic pathways. The role of plasminogen activators, in particular urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), in pericellular proteolysis is well established. Furthermore, novel information indicates the involvement of the uPA system in cell adhesion and chemotactic behavior. Thus the uPA-system plays a unique role in integrating different aspects of cell migratory behavior and coordinating cell invasion.
