PHASE ERROR ESTIMATION AND CORRECTION IN ACOUSTIC MICROSCOPY

This correspondence considers the phase error estimation and correction problem in tomographic acoustic microscopy. In a recent paper, Lin and Wade modeled the phase error as a constant and proposed a single-sideband technique for its correction. The purpose of this correspondence is to point out that the phase error is not a constant, and that the single-sideband technique removes only the effect of the error in the displayed image. In this correspondence we propose a new method to estimate and correct the spatially varying phase error. The method is demonstrated with experimental data from the scanning laser acoustic microscope. © 1990 IEEE
