INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY IN HEALTH-CARE ORGANIZATIONS

In the race to improve health-care performance we are constantly faced with the need to better utilize all available resources [1] including technology. Health-care providers invest heavily in technology, thus making the effective management of this resource a critical issue in health-care management. This paper explores one organizational dimension - the integration of management of technology (MOT) and its link to performance in health and organizations. The issues involved in this relationship are discussed, and the findings from an exploratory study of hospitals are described. The paper concludes with some research directions which will be explored in a comprehensive study of MOT in health care that the authors are currently conducting in US hospitals.
