ALKALI NIOBIUM AND TANTALUM SILICATE-GLASSES AND FERROELECTRIC GLASS-CERAMICS

摘要
Properties and structure of alkali niobium and tantalum silicate glasses are discussed. Property/composition studies of potassium silicate based glasses indicate that niobium and tantalum act as intermediates in the glass network, by forming [MO(6)]-R(+) octahedral units (where M = Nb or Ta, and R = Li+, Na+, or K+). The crystallization behavior and unique properties of the glass-ceramic derivatives of these glasses, including their ferroelectric and electrooptical nature, are also discussed.
