RESULTS OF THE CULTIVATION TEST OF INDIAN MUSTARD (BRASSICA-JUNCEA L-CZERN)

Six-year comprehensive investigations and practical tests in the former GDR show that Indian mustard can be produced with a relatively high and stable yield and in good quality using the available machinery, provided certain site conditions are given and a specific cultivation system is applied. Until recently Indian mustard was not grown here. With 2.98 t/ha the average yield in the field trials has reached a remarkable level compared with international standards. In farming practice the crop has been grown on 3,000 ha land giving an average yield of 1.48 t/ha, on the best farms with intensive cultivation even of 2.0-2.5 t/ha.
