INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION-SYSTEMS IN ISDN

ISDN is an infrastructure of advanced information and communication systems. With the introduction of commercial services such as basic rate interface in 1988 and primary rate interface in 1989, narrowband ISDN is evolving as a major communication network. On top of that, research and development of broadband ISDN, which is aimed at high resolution video communication and high speed data communication, is being actively promoted. The construction of intelligent networks, which provide not only high speed and high quality transmission capability, but also advanced communication processing matching the users' requirements, is also promoted. In this paper the standardization activity and the technical trend of ISDN are described first, followed by our company's development of ISDN terminals which make the best use of the high speed and high quality features of ISDN.
