This paper looks into how a major world city has attempted to take a holistic view of the food that city produces, stores, delivers, sells, consumes and wastes. It details the development of the London Food Board and consequent London Food Strategy launched in 2006 by then Mayor of London Ken Livingstone (and Chair of the Food Board Jenny Jones). As well as touching upon some of the ways the strategy has referenced planning issues, it details the strategy's priorities and the projects that have been launched as a result. It then talks about how the strategy is being taken forward under the new administration with Mayor Boris Johnson and chair of the food board Rosie Boycott, and finally why it is so crucial that cities like London consider the adaptability, and moreover sustainability, of their food systems in the light of many seemingly inevitable and sizeable changes in the future.
