Henri Bergson and the idea of unconscious

This paper studies the idea of the unconscious in Bergson, closely linked to his psychological and philosophical thinking, not much considered and of great originality. For him the whole past is retained, but consciousness illuminates only the part of it needed for action. All that is retained in the memory can become conscious in certain circumstances and always acts (unconsciously) on the conscience, constituting the "character". The evolution of Bergon's ideas is considered and his doctrines compared with the psychoanalytical ones.
